Lahore (Sports Desk) — National wrestler Inam Butt is expected to receive major relief in the doping case.
According to sources, the International Testing Agency has accepted Inam Butt’s position that the prohibited medicines used to treat an eye condition were not intended to enhance his performance or strength.
Sources said the medicines were used solely for medical reasons. However, Inam Butt was found negligent for failing to obtain timely permission for their use as part of his treatment.
Inam Butt could face a ban of at least two months, while the silver medal he won at the Asian Beach Games may also be withdrawn. The ban will apply from April, and the use of prohibited medicines for eye treatment has been confirmed.
The International Testing Agency has also granted Inam Butt permission to use the said medicine for one year.
According to sources, a formal decision by the International Testing Agency in Inam Butt’s case is expected soon. After that, he will be able to represent Pakistan at the Asian Games and may also travel to Japan with the national team as a coach.
Following the decision, Inam Butt will also be able to resume his responsibilities as federation secretary and chairman of the Athletes Commission.
After the doping case emerged, Inam Butt had voluntarily stepped down from his positions, keeping the interests of the sport and impartiality in mind.
