Washington (Monitoring Desk) — A report by a US government watchdog has confirmed that after several months of direct war with Iran, the US military is facing depleted strategic weapons stockpiles and serious difficulties in supplying advanced weapons.
A joint report by the inspectors general of the US Department of Defense, Department of State and US Agency for International Development has, for the first time, revealed details of declines in key ammunition stockpiles and major damage suffered by US facilities in the Middle East.
Citing expert estimates, the report said defense contractors could take up to three years to restore stocks of advanced missiles and defensive missiles to pre-war levels.
According to the report, Iranian attacks caused extensive damage to US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Jordan, where hundreds of buildings and other structures were destroyed or damaged.
The Iranian attacks also damaged or completely destroyed dozens of US aircraft and drones.
