Lahore (Pakistan Khabar): Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide protest continues with demands for the abolition of the petroleum levy and relief for the public, while the train march led by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has reached Sukkur, where it received a warm welcome from the public at various railway stations.
Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Ameer Liaquat Baloch said the party’s peaceful, democratic and constitutional struggle has written a new chapter in political history, with road blockades at 510 locations and sit-ins at 40 places continuously increasing pressure on the government.
He said the government has already been given six workable proposals for abolishing the petroleum levy and generating alternative revenue, but basic measures are being avoided due to government shortcomings.
According to Liaquat Baloch, the government has sought time until the Prime Minister’s return and the conclusion of negotiations with the IMF; however, delaying tactics are unacceptable, and the decision to hold a super long march to Islamabad remains unchanged.
He said the petroleum levy was tantamount to extortion and that protests and the long march would continue until its abolition is announced. He alleged that the government was carrying out misleading propaganda by using the opposition’s September 27 protest as a pretext and committing contempt of court through a selective interpretation of the High Court’s decision.
The Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Ameer further said the government itself had blocked roads, causing difficulties for the public, while PTI has a constitutional and political right to hold peaceful protests. He said Jamaat-e-Islami would not allow a confrontation between the government and PTI at the governmental level, while the next phase of the super long march from Multan would be announced soon.
