France (Sports Desk) — Renowned footballer and former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has shared a photo on social media from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah while performing Umrah.
The photo shows 38-year-old Karim Benzema wearing Ihram, while his caption reads, “Alhamdulillah for everything.”
Karim Benzema is currently not associated with any football club. Al-Hilal and Benzema mutually agreed to terminate his contract, bringing his brief six-month spell with the Saudi club to an end.
Despite his short stay at Al-Hilal, Benzema’s performance was notable. He played 16 matches in all competitions, scored 10 goals and provided five assists, while also winning the King’s Cup with the club.
There has also been speculation about Benzema returning to his former club Lyon, where he began his professional football career.
Lyon Sporting Director Matthieu Louis-Jean confirmed that Benzema had been contacted through an intermediary this summer, but the matter could not progress because of his contract.
Meanwhile, UAE second-division club Arabian Falcons has also invited several prominent free agents, including Benzema, to train with and represent the club.
