Kenya (Sports Desk): Kenya’s 25-year-old athlete Agnes Ngetich set a new women’s half marathon world record during the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen.
Agnes Ngetich completed the 21.1-kilometer distance in one hour, five minutes and 15 seconds, improving the previous world record by one second. The previous record was also set by Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir in 2020.
Ngetich took the lead from the beginning of the race and maintained it until the finish, while her compatriot Veronica Loleyo finished second, 50 seconds behind.
The overall women’s half marathon world record is held by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey, who completed the distance in one hour, two minutes and 52 seconds in 2021.
This is Agnes Ngetich’s second major achievement of the year. She had previously won the World Cross Country Championships in January.
