Peshawar (Pakistan News): An explosion and firing incident during Friday prayers at the old Police Lines on Peshawar Road in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district killed 16 people, including five police personnel, while more than 40 people were injured.
According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi, rescue teams launched search and rescue operations at the scene immediately after the explosion. The injured are being shifted to hospitals by ambulances after receiving first aid.
Additional ambulances and personnel from Karak and Hangu have also reached Kohat to assist in the rescue operation. According to officials, more than 60 personnel, along with 20 ambulances and rescue and recovery vehicles, are engaged in relief operations.
According to initial reports, seven armed terrorists attempted to enter the Police Lines after the explosion, prompting police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel to confront them. Six terrorists, including a sniper, have so far been killed during the operation.
According to officials, a clearance operation is underway inside the Police Lines premises and has entered its final phase.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed said the police have full capability to confront terrorists, and operations will continue until Fitan al-Khawarij is completely eliminated.
