Lahore (Pakistan News) — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has responded to allegations of rigging against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, criticizing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
In a statement posted on the social media platform, Maryam Nawaz said that it is surprising that the PPP, which is skilled in subtle methods of rigging, is itself raising allegations of rigging.
Earlier, PPP Central Punjab General Secretary Hassan Murtaza, while addressing a press conference in Lahore, had alleged that his party faced rigging in the Azad Kashmir elections and that violations of the code of conduct took place.
Hassan Murtaza claimed that the Election Commission acted like a party in the matter rather than an impartial institution, while a new example of election rigging was set.
Without naming Maryam Nawaz, he said that others are responsible for reducing the political stature of Nawaz Sharif, while the PPP respects Nawaz Sharif.
The PPP leader also criticized the performance of the Punjab government, saying that citizens are facing difficulties due to rains and drainage problems. He also raised questions over government policies regarding the decision to import wheat, taxes, and public facilities.
It is worth mentioning that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also previously made allegations of alleged rigging during the first phase of the Azad Kashmir elections.
