ISLAMABAD (Pakistan News): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned Asad Mahmood, son of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and former federal minister for communications, in connection with alleged illegal appointments at Pakistan Post.
According to a notice issued by NAB Rawalpindi, Asad Mahmood has been directed to appear on November 10 at 11:00 am. Investigations are underway into alleged irregularities at Pakistan Post during his tenure as minister from 2022 to 2023.
NAB said the Establishment Division had authorised recruitment against 3,938 posts in the department, but allegedly 4,252 people were given jobs.
The notice further alleges that, in violation of Cabinet Committee directives, appointments were also made against 2,646 abolished posts. It also states that permanent employees were recruited despite recommendations for contract-based hiring through a testing agency.
The investigation agency has also included allegations involving forged documents, appointments of candidates who exceeded the prescribed age limit, and violations of domicile quotas.
NAB has warned that failure to comply with the summons could result in legal action under Section 31 of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999.
Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad had also summoned Asad Mahmood to record his statement in the same case. The FIA had issued him a notice to appear on November 2 at 11:00 am.
