Pakistan and Canada Begin Talks on Investment Agreement

Islamabad (Pakistan News): In Ottawa, negotiations have officially begun between Pakistan and Canada on an investment agreement.

The talks focus on the proposed Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPPA) and a bilateral investment treaty aimed at strengthening the investment framework between the two countries.

Pakistan’s delegation is being led by Additional Secretary of the Board of Investment Zulfiqar Ali, along with senior officials from trade, investment, and economic affairs institutions.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada Muhammad Saleem said that both countries are committed to developing an effective and high-quality investment system. He added that Pakistan has introduced several reforms to improve the business environment and protect investors.

At the opening session, Director General of South Asia Bureau at Global Affairs Canada Jean-Christian Brillant welcomed the Pakistani delegation and expressed hope that the discussions would be constructive and result-oriented.

It is worth noting that the previous round of talks was held in October 2025 in Islamabad.
