Islamabad (Commerce Desk): The federal government has approved a technical supplementary grant of Rs13 billion to address the financial issues of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), while sovereign guarantees worth Rs34.6 billion have also been approved for the Sialkot-Kharian Motorway project.
The financial assistance for PTV was approved during a virtual meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had requested Rs20 billion for the payment of employees’ salaries, allowances, utility bills, and other essential expenses; however, the ECC approved the release of Rs13 billion. It was decided that the amount would be provided in quarterly installments of approximately Rs3.25 billion.
PTV is a registered entity under the PTV Companies Act, while Information Secretary Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil is also performing the responsibilities of Managing Director of the organization.
According to the Ministry of Finance’s report, PTV’s revenue declined by 22 percent during the fiscal year 2024-25, falling to Rs14.3 billion, while the organization faced a net loss of Rs639 million, making it one of the major loss-making state institutions.
Meanwhile, the ECC also approved sovereign guarantees worth Rs34.6 billion for the 69-kilometer-long Sialkot-Kharian Motorway project.
