Russian Foot and Mouth vaccine restored, major boost for livestock sector

Islamabad (Commerce Desk) A key development in the livestock sector has been reported as the supply of the Russian Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine has been restored.

The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) played a key role in this development, which is expected to further strengthen the livestock sector and international cooperation.

Millions of livestock animals in Pakistan are affected by Foot and Mouth Disease, causing severe losses in production and exports. Over the past three years, around 2,100 cases of the disease have been reported.

Officials said that with the support of the SIFC, the major issue regarding the supply of the Russian vaccine has been successfully resolved.

Russian Trade Representative Denis A. Nezurov appreciated the council’s role in ensuring effective coordination between relevant institutions.

Experts say the move will boost farmers’ confidence and improve disease prevention systems. Improved vaccine availability is expected to enhance livestock productivity and quality, creating new opportunities for growth in the sector.

This development is also expected to promote Pakistan’s livestock exports and further strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Russia.
