Islamabad (Pakistan News): On the 19th day of the September 1965 war, Pakistani forces continued operations against the Indian army on the Sialkot, Jammu and other fronts. According to available wartime records, 40 Indian army tanks were destroyed in the Sialkot-Jammu sector, while 3 officers, 4 junior commissioned officers and 102 personnel were taken as prisoners of war.
In the Khem Karan area, three attempts by the Indian Air Force to carry out air attacks were foiled, while Indian counterattacks on the Wagah-Attari front were also repulsed. Pakistani forces claimed to have pushed Indian troops back several miles in the Kasur and Khem Karan areas.
Operations by the Pakistani army also continued on the Chawinda front. In the Sindh-Rajasthan sector, reports emerged that 150 Indian personnel were killed and 21 were taken as prisoners of war.
Mujahideen targeted an Indian military base near Rajouri, while an important bridge near Srinagar was also destroyed.
The Pakistan Air Force continued supporting ground forces and shot down an Indian Air Force Hunter aircraft in the Sialkot-Jammu sector.
During the war, writers, poets and people from various walks of life across the country also announced that they would contribute 10 percent of their income to the National Defence Fund.
