Sheikh Hasina Announces Return to Bangladesh in December

Dhaka (Monitoring Desk): Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced her intention to return home after two years in exile, saying that she wishes to return to the country in December this year.

According to foreign media reports, 78-year-old Sheikh Hasina addressed an event of the South Asian Foreign Correspondents’ Club through a video link, which was also attended by her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and other leaders of the Awami League.

Sheikh Hasina said that upon returning home, she could face arrest or imprisonment, but these concerns would not stop her from fulfilling her responsibilities toward the people.

She said that she could not continue living abroad while leaving the people of her country facing difficulties.

The former prime minister also demanded the lifting of the ban imposed on her party, the Awami League, while her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy said that he has no communication with the current government.

It is worth noting that Sheikh Hasina left power in 2024 following student-led protests and moved to India by helicopter. She has not returned to Bangladesh since then.
