Tehran (Showbiz Desk) An Iranian court has sentenced renowned singer Parastoo Ahmadi and eight other members of the “Caravanserai” concert group to 74 lashes each.
According to the BBC, the court also imposed a two-year ban on leaving the country and participating in artistic activities for all individuals involved.
The ruling was issued by a court in Iran’s Qom province under provisions of Islamic law, with identical punishments handed to each member. The court also ordered that the verdict be published in national media.
According to the judgment, the accused were charged with sharing “immoral and inappropriate content” online, which allegedly violated public decency.
Reports say that the “Caravanserai” concert video uploaded to Parastoo Ahmadi’s YouTube channel showed her singing without a hijab.
The video was viewed over 100,000 times within hours, later going viral on social media and accumulating millions of views to date.
