Zurich (Web Desk): Researchers in Switzerland have developed a unique robotic hand capable of walking using only its fingers, without an arm or body.
A research team affiliated with the Soft Robotics Lab at the Swiss institution ETH Zurich has released videos of the robotic hand along with a preliminary draft of its research paper.
The researchers have compared their invention to the hand named “Thing”, a character from the famous television series “The Addams Family”.
According to Amir Hossein Kazemipour, a doctoral candidate at the Soft Robotics Lab, the robotic hand’s distinctive feature is its ability to move independently without any external assistance.
He explained that making the hand capable of walking was a challenging task because its fingers are not all identical. The robot must learn to coordinate its fingers and maintain its balance while moving.
