Tensions Persist in Middle East Despite Ceasefire, Israeli Strikes Worsen Situation in Lebanon

Geneva (Monitoring Desk) A U.S. official has said that despite an agreed ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, tensions in the region continue, while reports of Israeli attacks after the ceasefire have further raised concerns.

According to Lebanese media, Israel carried out air and drone strikes in the southern Lebanese area of Nabatieh just hours after the ceasefire came into effect. The attacks reportedly killed five more people and caused severe damage to residential buildings and homes.

The ceasefire was agreed on Friday through U.S. mediation, but the situation has not fully returned to normal.

Reports indicate that the ongoing regional tensions caused by the conflict have also affected talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland, which were aimed at making progress toward a permanent peace agreement.

A senior Iranian negotiator stated that Tehran will not compromise on its “red lines,” while at the same time maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz appears to be partially resuming after previously being nearly halted.

Further reports say the Israeli military has claimed it targeted multiple Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, while casualties have been reported on both sides, keeping the overall situation in the region highly uncertain.
