Baku (Monitoring Desk): A severe fire has broken out at the only oil refinery in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, rescue teams have reached the site and firefighting operations are ongoing to bring the blaze under control.
The refinery holds key importance in the country’s energy sector, with an annual processing capacity of around 6.5 million metric tons of crude oil and approximately 130,000 barrels of oil per day.
Authorities say further measures are being taken to control the situation and assess the extent of the damage, while investigations have also been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
