Bangkok (Monitoring Desk): Thailand has launched a large-scale crackdown against illegal businesses and the purchase of properties by foreign nationals through nominees.
Following reports of crimes and violations of laws involving foreign nationals, the government has reduced the visa-free stay period from 60 days to 30 days.
According to Channel News Asia and other sources, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a meeting of relevant government agencies and directed authorities to take strict action against illegal activities. He said violations of the law by foreigners had exceeded acceptable limits.
Anutin Charnvirakul said Thailand had facilitated the entry of foreign nationals into the country, and they must therefore comply with the country’s laws. He added that those attempting to exploit the country would not be tolerated.
