Lahore (Pakistan News) — On the 16th day of the 1965 war, the Indian Army’s casualties reached 6,889, while tanks, armored vehicles and other heavy military equipment also suffered significant damage.
On the Sialkot and Jammu fronts, Pakistan’s armed forces, particularly the Pakistan Air Force, thwarted Indian attacks and destroyed 36 enemy tanks. The Pakistan Army halted the Indian advance on the Wagah, Attari and Khem Karan fronts, pushed the enemy back 12 miles into its territory and captured an area of 6 miles.
The Pakistan Army inflicted heavy losses in terms of lives and military equipment on the enemy and gained complete control of the Rajouri sector. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Navy established complete control over the Arabian Sea and halted the movement of the Indian Navy.
Pakistan Air Force Sabre aircraft also shot down two Indian Air Force Hunter aircraft over the Beas River. In the Sialkot, Jammu, Wagah, Attari, Khem Karan and Gadru sectors, Pakistani fighter aircraft destroyed 20 Indian tanks, several military vehicles and artillery positions.
The 1965 war recalls numerous incidents reflecting the love and attachment of the Pakistani people toward the armed forces in national history. On September 16, 1965, Pakistanis from different walks of life made generous donations and provided financial support to the Defence Fund.
