Beijing (Web Desk) — China has accelerated research and experiments into the potential military use of humanoid robots.
According to Reuters, Chinese military institutions are examining the potential use of humanoid robots in urban warfare, reconnaissance and surveillance, logistics and dangerous missions.
Experiments have been conducted at China’s National University of Defense Technology in which robots were tested for tasks such as reaching behind enemy lines, mapping areas and locating targets.
The research is also focusing on improving robots’ ability to understand their surroundings, grasp and handle objects, as well as make autonomous decisions.
According to the report, in 2026 the Chinese military also allocated funds to develop systems for collecting camera, radar and mobility-related data and training robots.
However, there is still no evidence that any armed humanoid robot has been deployed in an active unit of the Chinese military. Current robots face challenges including high energy consumption and unreliable performance in uncertain battlefield environments.
China is preparing to use such robots in the future as assistants to soldiers or to send them into dangerous areas, but these plans are currently at the research and experimental stage.
