Lahore (Pakistan Khabar): The Punjab government has extended the detention of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, by another 30 days.
Justice Abhar Gul Khan heard a petition filed in the Lahore High Court seeking the recovery of the three women. Punjab Home Secretary and the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail appeared before the court.
In a report submitted to the court, the home secretary stated that the detention of all three women had been extended. According to the government’s lawyer, the deputy commissioner had sent a proposal to the Punjab government recommending an extension, which was approved on October 7.
During the hearing, the court pointed out to the petitioner’s lawyer that the detention notification had been issued by the deputy commissioner, but the official had not been made a party to the petition. The court clarified that it could not issue an order beyond the scope of the petition.
Subsequently, the Lahore High Court disposed of the petition in light of the home secretary’s report.
