Mumbai (Showbiz Desk): Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has revealed that after her early films failed at the box office, she was pushed away from feature films, describing the experience as a major emotional setback.
In an interview with Arab media, the actress said it was not easy for a young artist who dreams of achieving success to go through such a situation.
According to Dia Mirza, during 2004 and 2005, she began focusing less on chasing fame and more on projects whose stories and purpose mattered to her. She said she valued meaning and purpose in her work more than material success.
The actress explained that she entered film production at the age of 24 to create opportunities to showcase her abilities. She felt that if she could not find a suitable place in the industry, she would have to make her own path.
Speaking about her choice of roles, she said she did not place importance on whether a character was a lead or supporting role. Instead, she prioritised the character’s depth and significance to the story.
Discussing the representation of women in Indian films, Dia Mirza said awareness of male dominance and prejudice against women had increased over the past decade. She cited director Anubhav Sinha’s film Thappad as an example in this regard.
The actress advised young artists that there is no fixed timeline for a career. According to her, those who continue learning, work hard and remain honest in their profession can move forward despite early setbacks.
