Islamabad (Pakistan News): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that misinformation and fake news are among the biggest challenges of the modern era, and digital literacy must be made part of the curriculum to tackle them.
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, he said clear labelling of content generated through artificial intelligence must be made mandatory.
Attaullah Tarar proposed the establishment of a National Cybersecurity and Social Media Awareness Council, saying continuous measures were needed to address issues related to cybersecurity and social media. He added that the country was also facing the challenges of deepfakes and artificial intelligence.
According to the federal minister, a Digital Communications Department has been established within the Ministry of Information. He also stressed the need to teach children how to protect themselves from unsafe use of social media.
He further said that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had started its operations, which would also help the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
