Islamabad (Commerce Desk): Due to an ongoing flour crisis and continuous price increases, the price of a 20-kg flour bag has reached a record high of Rs. 2,800.
According to a report by a private TV channel and recent documents from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Karachi has emerged as the city with the most expensive flour, where a 20-kg bag is being sold for Rs. 2,800.
In Peshawar, the same bag is priced at Rs. 2,750, while in Islamabad it has reached Rs. 2,733. In Rawalpindi, the price stands at Rs. 2,707.
Similarly, in Quetta and Bannu, the price has climbed to around Rs. 2,700. In other cities, Hyderabad is recording Rs. 2,600, Khuzdar and Larkana Rs. 2,400, Faisalabad Rs. 2,350, and Gujranwala Rs. 2,333.
In Multan and Lahore, prices have also continued to rise. Reports show that in Multan a 20-kg bag costs Rs. 2,267, while in Lahore it is priced at Rs. 2,250, further increasing the burden on ordinary citizens.
The sharp rise in flour prices has significantly reduced the purchasing power of the common man. Economists say that disruptions in wheat supply and a lack of effective action against hoarding are the main causes of this crisis, and urgent measures are needed to control the situation.
