Major Changes Under Consideration in Pakistan Cricket, Former Stars Likely to Get Key Roles

Lahore (Sports Desk): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering major structural changes aimed at improving the national team’s performance, including assigning important responsibilities to former star players.

According to sources, several high-level meetings have taken place over the past few days between top officials and former cricketers. Following disappointing results in the Test series during the Bangladesh tour, preparations are underway for major changes in the team management.

Sources say that former captain Younis Khan is being considered for the role of head coach. If the current setup continues to underperform, he may be given this responsibility; otherwise, he could be assigned another important position within the board.

Similarly, former captain Sarfraz Ahmed already has an existing contract with the board, but concerns have been raised about his role. If he is not retained in his current position, he may be adjusted into another assignment.

Former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has also met PCB officials. He has previously served as team director during tours of Australia and New Zealand and is reportedly willing to take on a role in cricket administration again, with possibilities including selection committee membership or Director of International Cricket.

Meanwhile, the captaincy of Shan Masood is also under scrutiny. Following the loss against Bangladesh, he has been advised to step down, though he has requested more opportunities during upcoming tours of West Indies and England.

Options for leadership remain limited. Salman Ali Agha has not shown consistent performance, while Babar Azam has also had multiple opportunities without delivering sustained team success.

Pakistan is scheduled to play a two-Test series against West Indies from July 25, followed by a three-match series against England in August.
