Argentina (Sports Desk) – The case surrounding the death of legendary footballer Diego Maradona has been reopened, with fresh hearings set to begin on Tuesday.
According to international reports, the 60-year-old icon passed away on November 25, 2020, due to a heart attack. However, his death was later deemed suspicious, prompting a detailed investigation.
A previous trial that began in May 2025 was annulled after allegations surfaced against a judge for allowing unauthorized filming inside the courtroom.
In the new proceedings, seven members of Maradona’s medical team are facing charges of culpable homicide due to alleged negligence. All accused have denied the allegations.
Prosecutors argue that the medical staff was fully aware of Maradona’s fragile health condition but failed to take appropriate medical measures. An initial medical report indicated that fluid had accumulated in his lungs due to cardiac complications.
A panel of experts described the treatment as insufficient and negligent, stating that better medical care could have increased his chances of survival.
The trial is expected to feature around 100 witnesses, with proceedings likely to continue until July.
