Islamabad (Commerce Desk): The government has introduced new rules to make the resolution of domestic and international trade disputes more efficient and transparent. Under the new framework, the Trade Dispute Resolution Commission has been granted authority to hear cases involving disputes worth at least $5,000.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce Pakistan, the Trade Dispute Resolution Rules 2026 have come into immediate effect, aiming to ensure quicker resolution of disputes.
Under the new system, applications can be submitted via post, as well as online and through email. Special facilitation has also been provided for overseas Pakistanis. Applicants are required to submit all necessary documents, evidence, and fees, and proceedings will be conducted in English. The commission also holds the authority to reject incomplete or baseless applications.
The new procedure encourages parties to resolve disputes through negotiations in the first stage, with a 30-day period allocated for this purpose. If unresolved, cases may proceed to mediation, arbitration, or a final decision by the commission.
An important provision states that disputes exceeding $100 million will be referred to the Commercial Bench of the High Court to ensure effective handling of high-value cases.
