Karachi (Showbiz Desk) Filmmaker and actor Shamoon Abbasi has opposed a proposed drama serial based on the life of an alleged drug dealer Anmol alias Pinky, stating that such stories are not suitable for television screens.
In a statement on social media, Shamoon Abbasi questioned why negative characters are being dramatized instead of focusing on positive, inspiring, and success-based stories present in society.
He said that there are numerous stories based on women’s struggle and success that could be shown on television to promote a positive message in society.
Shamoon Abbasi also commented on reports suggesting that actress Saba Qamar is being considered for the lead role in the project. According to him, Saba Qamar is a highly talented actress who can effectively perform any role.
He praised Saba Qamar’s drama “Case No. 9,” saying it raised awareness about social issues, particularly harassment.
The actor stated that if a controversial or negative story must be told, it should be presented on the cinema screen, as watching films is a matter of audience choice, whereas TV dramas are accessible to people of all ages in households.
He added that presenting the story of a criminal or controversial figure publicly is a sensitive matter and requires responsibility and caution.
Shamoon Abbasi also suggested that such projects are often attempts to capitalize on viral incidents, although he did not elaborate further.
According to reports, a production house is working on a drama series based on the life of a Karachi-based alleged drug dealer, with various names being considered for the script and cast.
In the past, content based on real-life crimes has also sparked debate in Pakistan, with objections raised at different times regarding its portrayal and broadcast.
