Islamabad (Commerce Desk): Pakistan obtained $1.7 billion in external loans during the first two months, July and August, of the ongoing fiscal year 2026-27, which is 23.60% higher than the amount received during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
According to data released by the federal government, the loans obtained during the current fiscal year are equivalent to Rs476 billion, compared with Rs391 billion secured during the same period last year.
The data showed that during the period, $484.5 million in financial assistance was received for various projects, while $1.21 billion was obtained under other categories unrelated to projects.
International financial institutions provided Pakistan with more than $590 million in loans, including $191.2 million from the Islamic Development Bank and $238.4 million from the World Bank, while the data provided for the Asian Development Bank lists $9.57 billion.
According to the Economic Affairs Division, various countries also provided $35.2 million, including $12.8 million from Germany and $8.9 million from Saudi Arabia.
So far during the current fiscal year, China has not provided any financial assistance to Pakistan. A total of $629.7 million was obtained through Naya Pakistan Certificates, while $300 million was borrowed from foreign commercial banks.
