Madrid (Monitoring Desk): Spain has announced a new military aid package worth €437 million (approximately $490 million) to further strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities amid its ongoing war with Russia.
The assistance aims to help Ukraine protect itself against Russian missile and drone attacks, while also meeting its key defence requirements.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the aid package following his meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in Madrid on November 5. Expressing gratitude for Spain's continued support, he said that the two leaders held detailed discussions on military assistance and Ukraine's urgent defence needs.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy also briefed the Spanish Prime Minister on the damage caused by Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy system, electricity transmission, water supply, transportation of goods and railway infrastructure.
According to the Ukrainian President, a large number of engines and railway locomotives have been destroyed or damaged as a result of Russian attacks this year. He said that even during the previous years of full-scale war, such extensive damage had not occurred.
Expressing particular concern over the situation in the capital, Kyiv, he said that the country's electricity and water supply systems were continuously being targeted, increasing the need for humanitarian assistance alongside military support.
