Punjab decides to end free travel facility including Metro and Orange Line

Lahore (Pakistan Khabar): The Punjab government has decided to end the free travel facility being provided on Metro Bus, Orange Line Train, Speedo, Electric Bus and Green Bus services.

According to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority, the subsidy has been withdrawn due to a lack of significant reduction in petroleum product prices. After this, from June 13, passengers will have to pay regular fares on all mass transit services. Citizens will continue to avail free travel facility until tonight.

Officials said that this free travel facility was introduced in April 2026 under a public relief package, which was initially for one month, however later its extension was also considered.

According to statistics, approximately eight hundred thousand passengers were traveling free daily on these transport services, including two hundred ninety thousand through the Orange Line Train alone, while more than one hundred thousand citizens were benefiting from the Metro Bus service.

The government stated that this facility was provided to reduce the impact of inflation and rising fuel prices, however after its termination, passengers will once again have to pay the prescribed fares.
