Washington (Monitoring Desk): U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s missile stockpile has significantly decreased and that the country will ultimately have no choice but to reach a deal.
In an interview with NBC News, Trump said that Iran now reportedly has only 21 to 22 percent of its missiles remaining. He added that Iran would soon be forced into decisions it had never previously considered.
The U.S. president stated that current tensions cannot be resolved immediately, but developments are moving toward a situation where Iran will be compelled to enter negotiations and agree to a deal.
Earlier, speaking to reporters, Trump said his administration is making significant progress on the Iran issue. He reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
He further stated that Iran is currently not in a position to obtain nuclear weapons and that the United States will maintain its policy stance.
Referring to the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said a large number of oil tankers are passing through the key waterway, though he did not provide specific figures.
He added that resolving the situation around the Strait of Hormuz should not take long, and once conditions normalize, global oil prices are expected to fall.
Trump further suggested that oil prices may not only decrease but could potentially drop below current levels.
