War Powers Resolution Rejected in US Senate

Washington (Monitoring Desk) A majority of Republican members in the US Senate rejected a resolution related to war powers, causing an attempt to block potential military action against Iran to fail. The resolution was rejected by 52 votes to 47. It had been presented by Democratic members with the aim of limiting US and Israeli military activities against Iran until congressional approval was obtained.

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky was the only Republican who voted in favor of the resolution, while Senator Jim Justice of West Virginia did not participate in the voting. This marked the fourth time this year that Democratic members introduced such a resolution, but each time it faced failure due to Republican opposition. This time as well, there was one dissenting vote from within the Democrats.

Democratic leadership has announced that they will continue to introduce such resolutions until the conflict ends or a formal approval from Congress becomes clear.
