California (Web Desk) YouTube, the world’s most popular video-sharing platform, is set to end app support for some users with older Android smartphones.
Google has announced that the YouTube app will no longer support devices running Android 6 (Marshmallow). After July 2026, users will need Android 7 (Nougat) or a later version to continue using the YouTube app.
However, the app will not stop working immediately on affected devices, and users’ data will not be deleted. Instead, they are expected to experience gradual compatibility issues over time.
According to reports, when users open the app, they will see a “Switch to YouTube” message, after which they will be automatically redirected to YouTube’s mobile website through their phone’s web browser.
Google said the decision was made because YouTube continues to introduce new features that older operating systems are unable to support effectively.
Users with Android 6 devices can still watch YouTube videos through a web browser, but to enjoy the full app experience, they will need to upgrade to a newer Android version or use a more recent smartphone.
