Lahore (Pakistan News): A low-level flood situation continues in the Indus River at Kalabagh and in the Chenab River at Khanki, while water flow in most rivers of Punjab remains normal.
According to the spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), water inflow at Kalabagh in the Indus River was recorded at 269,000 cusecs, while the outflow was 262,000 cusecs.
Similarly, at Khanki in the Chenab River, water inflow was recorded at 113,000 cusecs, while the outflow was 106,000 cusecs.
According to PDMA, water flow in the Chenab River at Marala, Trimmu, Panjnad, and Qadirabad remains normal. The situation is also normal at Jassar, Shahdara, Head Sidhnaai, and Balloki in the Ravi River, as well as at Ganda Singh Wala, Sulemanki, and Head Islam in the Sutlej River.
The spokesperson said that water flow at Tarbela, Taunsa, and Chashma in the Indus River remains normal, while the situation in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan is also being monitored.
PDMA has warned that water levels in Punjab’s rivers may rise until July 24. A flood risk alert has also been issued for the streams connected with the Ravi and Chenab rivers, including Basantar, Dike, Palkhu, Bhimber Hailsi, and Dora.
According to officials, flash flooding is possible in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, while urban flooding risks have been identified in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, and Rawalpindi divisions.
PDMA Director General Umar Abbas Mela has instructed citizens living near rivers to immediately move to safer locations. The Punjab government has established flood relief camps in affected areas where basic facilities and medicines will be provided.
He appealed to citizens to take precautionary measures in view of the weather and flood situation, avoid going near rivers, canals, and streams, and prevent children from visiting or swimming in water areas.
