PIMS Incidents Are a Wake-Up Call for Health Sector, Khawaja Asif

Sialkot (Pakistan Khabar): Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has described the incidents that emerged at PIMS as a wake-up call for the health sector, saying that a strong system of corruption exists in the health sector and effective measures are needed to eliminate it.

Speaking at the inauguration of a medical facility for workers and their families in Sialkot, Khawaja Asif said that the Prime Minister has also taken notice of the incidents that occurred at PIMS. He expressed hope that some practical results would emerge after an investigation into the matter, but said that the overall situation needs to be improved.

The federal minister said that the health sector exists to save human lives, but unfortunately, some elements have made filling their own pockets and corruption their objective instead of serving the public. He said this situation is a matter of concern for the government, the public, and all relevant institutions.

Khawaja Asif said that a strong nexus of corruption still exists in the health sector, which must be eliminated through serious and effective measures. Referring to Punjab, he said that over the past two to two and a half years, the provincial government has focused on the health sector, resulting in improvements in several areas. However, he said reforms are also needed in other parts of the country.

He said that since he was currently at a hospital, he was discussing issues related to the health sector. According to him, the PIMS matter is not limited to just one institution; rather, it is an important question for the government, the public, and all those who have authority and responsibilities.
