PTA Blocks Over 1.8 Million Illegal SIMs in Nationwide Crackdown

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified action against the use of illegal SIMs and the unlawful sale of foreign SIMs, during which 1,838,689 SIMs have been blocked in the first seven months of this year.

According to PTA, 691,102 illegal SIMs have been blocked since January, while mobile numbers registered on the identity cards of deceased persons were also blocked, totaling 903,230.

The authority stated that action was taken against the use of SIMs registered on the identity cards of deceased individuals despite multiple warnings.

In addition, 244,357 SIMs registered on canceled or expired identity cards have also been blocked.

PTA continued operations against the illegal sale of foreign SIMs, during which 8,051 foreign SIMs were recovered in 25 raids, and 37 individuals were arrested.

According to PTA, operations to secure the telecom system and prevent the use of illegal SIMs will continue in the future.
