CALIFORNIA (Web Desk): Climate experts have warned that a Super El Niño could lead to approximately 900,000 additional deaths worldwide due to extreme heat over the next 10 months.
According to a report by the Climate Impact Lab at the University of Chicago, an estimated 484,500 additional deaths due to heat are expected between June and September this year, while a further 372,900 people could lose their lives over the following six months.
The report identified Nigeria as the most severely affected country, with more than 56,000 additional deaths expected. Around 55,000 deaths are projected in India, while approximately 29,000 people could die in Indonesia.
