Dubai (Web Desk) The United Arab Emirates has announced a ban on social media use for children under the age of 15, joining countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada that have taken similar measures.
According to a resolution by the UAE Cabinet, social media platforms are required to monitor accounts of users under 15 and ensure their closure.
The resolution also states that if platforms fail to comply with the rule, the relevant accounts may be blocked. Companies have been given a 12-month transition period for implementation.
According to the state news agency WAM, the new policy sets the minimum age for social media use at 15, meaning children below this age will not be allowed to create or operate personal accounts.
Earlier, Australia imposed a ban on social media use for children under 16 in December, which was described as the first such global measure of its kind.
Following this, countries including the United Kingdom have also introduced similar steps, while Indonesia, Malaysia, Türkiye, and several European countries have already implemented strict regulations on youth social media use.
