20 Killed in 7.7-Magnitude Indonesia Quake

Indonesia (Monitoring Desk) — The death toll from various accidents following a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake near the coast of Indonesia has risen to 20.

According to a news agency, the earthquake struck at 4:58 a.m. local time on Saturday at a depth of approximately 35 kilometers, after which several aftershocks were also felt.

According to the seismological center, the earthquake measured 7.7 in magnitude. Following the earthquake, Indonesia’s geophysics agency initially issued a tsunami warning, but the warning was withdrawn approximately three hours later.

According to Indonesian authorities, the death toll from various accidents caused by the earthquake has risen to 20.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Tsunami Warning Centre has clarified that the undersea earthquake poses no tsunami threat to Australian territory, islands, or areas.
