California (Web Desk) — Figure, a US company that develops humanoid robots, adopted an unusual method to dispose of its nearly two-year-old robots after retiring them.
The company’s founder and CEO, Brett Adcock, asked users on social media how the retired robots should be given a farewell.
Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s suggestion became the most popular response. He briefly advised that the robots should be melted down. Schwarzenegger played a cyborg assassin in the famous 1984 film The Terminator.
Figure contacted several metal foundries in the United States and Mexico to melt down the robots. However, none of the foundries agreed to put the robots, which were equipped with lithium-ion batteries, into valuable industrial machinery.
Eventually, the California-based company transported the robots to a foundry in the Finnish city of Imatra, where the melting process was completed.
According to the company, the process required special preparation and training, but proved more effective than conventional methods.
According to Figure, taking the entire fleet of robots, equipped with advanced technology and specialized equipment, to its final stage was not easy. Thus, unlike the famous line from The Terminator, “I’ll be back,” there is now no possibility of these robots returning.
