London (Sports Desk) England Cricket’s Managing Director Rob Key has hinted at the possibility of Ben Stokes returning for the Ashes series, saying that his comeback cannot be completely ruled out.
Rob Key said that although Ben Stokes has announced his retirement from Test cricket, no final prediction can be made about a player like him, and anything is possible in the future.
Ben Stokes announced his retirement from international cricket last month during the series against New Zealand, citing mental and physical exhaustion as the reason.
At the time, he said that he might watch the next Ashes series from the spectators’ box rather than playing on the field. However, speculation about his return has continued.
Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald had also said that if Stokes came out of retirement for the Ashes, it would be one of the greatest stories in cricket history.
On the other hand, Rob Key clarified that Ben Stokes himself has not given any indication of returning, but the door remains open for him in the England team.
