Islamabad (Commerce Desk) — The Federal Board of Revenue has delegated certain powers and specific responsibilities of customs officers to personnel of the Pakistan Coast Guard, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency and Frontier Corps Balochistan to make anti-smuggling operations more effective.
The Customs Wing of the FBR has issued formal notifications in this regard. According to the notifications, these powers have been granted under the Customs Act 1969 and will take effect immediately, while the previous notification issued in July 2023 has been revoked.
According to the notification, the Pakistan Coast Guard will be able to perform designated customs duties within a radius of up to 50 kilometers from the coastline in its respective areas.
However, municipal limits, designated customs areas and stations, ports, border customs stations, international airports and bonded warehouses, among other specified locations, will not fall within this jurisdiction.
