PESHAWAR (Pakistan News) — Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman has said that an unnecessary controversy has been created based on an incomplete sentence of JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, adding that those who have objections should listen to the complete speech.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman said that opponents could not tolerate the successful JUI conference in Kasur, which is why criticism began on July 13 over Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s incomplete sentence and demands for an apology were made.
He said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks are being presented out of context with the aim of damaging his political popularity. According to him, certain elements are attempting to restrict Maulana Fazlur Rehman, but he continues to have influence over his opponents.
Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman said that JUI has made great sacrifices for the country. He stated that 80 JUI workers were killed in the Bajaur gathering, scholars were targeted, but the party has always stood with the state. He said that the sacrifices of JUI are being ignored based on a single sentence.
He said that instead of discussing the entire gathering, only two words are being made the subject of debate. He added that JUI has played a role in important national matters in the past, supported Pakistan during the war against India, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman united religious scholars to issue a decree against terrorism.
