Islamabad (Pakistan News) — The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to introduce changes in electoral laws and constitutional provisions before the upcoming general elections.
For this purpose, the Election Commission has activated its Legal Reforms Committee, which includes senior ECP officials and officers from all departments. The committee will conduct a detailed review of existing election laws and constitutional provisions.
According to sources, the committee will analyze the legal and constitutional shortcomings identified during the 2024 general elections and submit its recommendations. The Election Commission will review the legal framework to make the electoral system more effective and modern.
The ECP will prepare proposals for necessary amendments to the Constitution, Election Act 2017, and Election Rules 2017.
Sources said that after identifying weaknesses in the electoral laws, recommendations will be forwarded to the relevant forums. The Election Commission has set a target to complete the review of the Election Act 2017 and Election Rules 2017 by December this year.
The Election Commission will also submit its opinion regarding new legislation within three months.
