Karachi (Commerce Desk): The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association has urged the government to provide facilities and incentives to increase vehicle exports instead of imposing restrictions or penalties on the industry.
According to the association, the draft of the new auto policy should be shared with the relevant industry before its approval so that manufacturers can provide their suggestions. PAMA has expressed concern over reports that additional duties could be imposed or production licenses cancelled if export targets are not met.
PAMA Director General said the country’s auto industry is aware of the importance of increasing exports and improving its contribution to foreign exchange earnings. However, he said incentives, facilitation, and a favorable business environment are necessary to achieve this objective instead of punitive measures.
The association said the industry would continue to cooperate in making Pakistan a competitive vehicle manufacturing and export hub. A significant increase in exports cannot be achieved immediately, but requires technology, local production, and long-term investment.
According to PAMA, export targets are influenced by various factors, including global demand, exchange rates, and trade agreements. Therefore, the new auto policy should adopt a clear, consistent, and transparent strategy.
The PAMA Director General demanded that before the policy is finalized, the industry should be given a full opportunity to review the draft and submit constructive proposals.
