Lahore (Sports Desk): Indian captain Shreyas Iyer and all-rounder Axar Patel have come under criticism following a controversial decision in the historic T20 International match against Japan.
Due to rain, the match was reduced to five overs per side. India scored 32 runs while batting first, and Japan needed six runs from the final four balls in their chase.
Japanese batter Alexander Patmore failed to play a reverse sweep off Axar Patel’s delivery, following which the umpire called it a wide. Axar Patel objected to the decision, after which Shreyas Iyer also approached the umpires for a discussion, and the wide decision was overturned.
After the decision was changed, Japan needed six runs from three balls but failed to reach the target, with India winning the match by two runs.
Following the incident, journalists, commentators and fans questioned the conduct of the Indian players, while some Indian supporters also criticized their behavior.
