Inflation reaches 11.7% in May 2026, Statistics Bureau report released

Islamabad (Commerce Desk) According to a report issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the inflation rate in the country rose to 11.7% in May 2026, compared to 10.9% in April 2026 and just 3.5% in May 2025.

The data shows that inflation in urban areas was recorded at 11.7%, while in rural areas it stood at 11.5%. The non-food and non-energy general inflation rate was recorded at 9.8%.

The report stated that on a yearly basis, transport fares increased by up to 37%, while housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel prices rose by up to 17%.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, food items collectively became 8% more expensive. Education expenses increased by 8.37%, while healthcare costs rose by 7.54%.

Restaurant and hotel expenses also increased by 5.69%, while prices of clothing and footwear rose by 8.77%.

The report further stated that flour prices increased by 11.21% and wheat prices by 7.78% over the past month. Potatoes, bakery products, meat, and powdered milk were also among the items that became more expensive.

Prices of milk, cooking oil, and ghee also rose, while footwear prices saw an increase of up to 29%. Postal services became 9% more expensive.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, motor fuel prices rose by 7.62% in a single month, transport services by 3.70%, and labor wages by 3.64%.
