Tehran (Monitoring Desk) — Iran has warned Bahrain and other countries in the region not to allow their territory, military bases or airspace to be used for any attacks against Iran, warning that Tehran would respond if they do so.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, the warning was issued by Ali Karimi Maqam, Second Secretary of Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, during a meeting of the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee.
Responding to a statement by Bahrain’s representative on human rights, Ali Karimi Maqam said Bahrain had ignored the circumstances and events that had led to the current situation.
The Iranian diplomat also rejected Bahrain’s position that it was an affected party in the current situation. He said Bahrain had provided its territory, military bases and airspace for what he described as an illegal US war against Iran.
He said a country that provides its territory and other facilities for an illegal war against its neighboring country should not later be surprised by its possible consequences.
Ali Karimi Maqam made it clear that Iran was once again warning countries in the region not to allow their territory or airspace to be used for attacks against Iran. According to him, if such attacks are allowed again, Iran will respond.
Iran’s statement comes at a time when tensions between Iran and the United States have raised concerns about the security of Gulf countries and the possible use of their military bases.
