Tehran (Monitoring Desk) Iran has warned shipping companies that vessels violating Iranian laws in the Strait of Hormuz could face fines, detention, or seizure.
According to media reports, Tehran has expanded inspections of some vessels over alleged violations and increased pressure on commercial operators using the Strait of Hormuz amid a deadlock in negotiations with the United States over navigation arrangements.
Iran says vessels that violate its transportation requirements could face fines, detention, or seizure if they attempt to pass through the Strait of Hormuz again.
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority has instructed shipping companies to review vessel lists. In a statement posted on X, companies transporting goods to or from Gulf states were advised to check the latest records of vessels that have violated Iranian laws before finalizing charters.
According to the authority, the checks will also be extended to vessels working with ships already included on the list, including vessel transfers, transshipment, and other related maritime activities.
